Soccer : Switzerland : Super League : Season 2008/2009

The Super League is an Switzerland professional league for football clubs. The new format was introduced in the 2003/04 season in order to improve the financial outlook for Switzerland's top clubs. The number of team was reduce from twelve to ten. Each clubs play each other four times over the course of the season, twice at home and twice away.

The top two teams in the Swiss Super League enter the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League. The second and third-placed teams were rewarded with a place in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Cup, along with the Swiss Cup winner. Only the lowest-placed team will be automatically relegated, with the second-from-bottom side facing a relegation/promotion play-off against the team that finishes second in the Challenge League (Second Division). The top finisher in the Second Division is automatically promoted to the top tier of the Swiss Football League.
